Shap Fell Hill Climb, May 7th - Bank Holiday Monday

Another classic race for the devotees of the uphill struggle, Dan Burdekin, Alfie Shaw and Richard Cary.

At 9.1 miles in length, starting from Kendal and heading north for the 1400ft summit of Shap Fell this had the ring of something rather tortuous. In reality, t'wasn't all that bad, especially as riders were gifted with a fairly strong tailwind. And further, as the weather forecast for the morning was for driving rain, and in the event the Met Office prediction wasn't quite spot on. Although not warm the day was good enough for us to be able to enjoy some rather fine scenery.

The route has a couple of drags early on, and even a couple of descents, the last of which is the launchpad for the final ascent, Huck's Brow. Dan hit it hard early on, and held his nerve to power up the final climb, crossing the line with 31:22 to secure 22nd place overall. Richard was a little further back 33:37, 35th place, and Alfie 41:53. Winner was Jon Sturman from the Blumilk team in 26:08.

We didn't get a team piccie as we were desperate to get off the top of the hill just as the weather was finally closing in.
